Chip-Deck

Chip-Deck Underfloor Heating System

Hydro Chip-Deck system made up from 22mm chipboard laid onto 400mm or 600mm spaced joists. The pipe channels have a 100mm 50 micron aluminium conductor to help transfer the heat from the pipe into the living space. In addition, a 6mm ply or cementitious equivalent bonded and screwed on top of the Chip-Deck panels. This completes the system, creating a structural floor ideal for most homes.

As a result, removing the need for chipboard over the joists, this system is ideal for new builds and renovations where floorboards are being removed and replaced.
Connecting pipes fed underneath the Chip-Deck and fed through a 12.5mm at 20° drilled hole and fed into the pipe channels.

Floor Coverings

wood and laminates

Wood Flooring

Wood and laminate flooring laid directly on to the Chip-Deck system, along with an underfloor heating suitable underlay. You should always consult the flooring manufacturer to ensure the wood floor is suitable with underfloor heating. The wood floor should not exceed 27°C.
Wood floors should be kept to a minimal thickness to avoid restricting the heat from the underfloor heating.

tiles

Tile Flooring

You can lay tiles directly on to Chip-Deck system using a flexible tile adhesive. We strongly advise the use of a decoupling membrane. This will help prevent cracks and also provide a separation layer should you want to change the tiles in the future.

LVT and Vinyl

LVT/Vinyl Flooring

LVT / Vinyl needs to have a flat surface to lie on. We recommend addressing with the manufacturer their recommendation for fitting LVT on top of 6mm plywood over underfloor heating.

carpet

Carpet Flooring

You can fit carpet floors on top of Chip-Deck. The TOG rating of the carpet and underlay needs to be below 2.5 TOG, but you should reduce this if possible.
Fit underfloor heating suitable underlay.
